Welcome to the Harvard Club Rhein-Ruhr!
The Harvard Club Rhein-Ruhr was founded in 1968 by a group of American and German Alumni of Harvard University and for many years has been the only active Harvard Club in Germany.
The club members have studied or participated in programs at Harvard University and have held positions such as professors, lecturers, assistant professors, or other roles at the university.
We also welcome individuals who have had a connection to Harvard in different distinguished ways. Most of our members live in the greater Rhein-Ruhr area, but we also have members from other parts of Germany or abroad. Our founding member was the distinguished Professor Dr. Ludwig Erhard († 1977), former Chancellor of the Federal Republic of Germany.
The Club aims to promote the welfare of Harvard University by attracting, advising, and assisting suitable young people interested in studying at Harvard. Additionally, it fosters social and fraternal fellowship among Harvard men and women and connects them with other German-American institutions. The Harvard Club Rhein-Ruhr hosts frequent events featuring prominent experts from academia, politics, business, and cultural institutions to discuss important political, social, and cultural topics.
For instance, members have introduced the Club and guests to a variety of topics in recent years, including the United States, Russia, China, the European Union, the European currency, German foreign policy, international security, global corruption, Jewish-German relationships, the 'Clash of Civilizations', Islam and Europe, topics related to the Christian Churches, and educational challenges. The Club participates in cultural events and regular member gatherings to discuss Club issues and build relationships.
